Twitter has announced two big new features, one of which is called ”Super Followers” that will come later this year, a membership platform-like subscription.
Super Followers lets you charge followers, and access additional content, according to the platform.
The content can be exclusive deals, community groups, video, a badge, or a subscription to a newsletter.
As shown in the thumbnail, a follower can pay $4.99/mo to access the exclusive tweet and content, letting influencers and creators get paid by the follower.
Twitter stated that:
“Exploring audience funding opportunities like Super Follows will allow creators and publishers to be directly supported by their audience and will incentivize them to continue creating content that their audience loves,”
Another big feature to come to the app is ”Twitter Communities” which is similar to subreddits on Reddit and Facebook Groups.
The feature allows users to create or join ”Communities” that have a specific interest, Twitter’s examples include cats, plants, surfing, and social justice.
The Super Followers feature is very similar to Patreon and could compete against it given that Twitter has more users than Patreon. Twitter did not give a release date in the press release but stated that there is “more to share” in the coming months.
