This morning, Apple made the rare and odd announcement for the World Wide Developers Conference. The event is predicted to show the newest versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. WWDC will be held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California and go from June 5th to the 9th.
What makes this location odd is that WWDC is usually held in San Francisco, but according to what Phil Schiller told The Loop, the room is the same size at the Moscone Center. Although the location change reason was not addressed specifically, Schiller did say, “downtown San Jose is going to provide a great environment for developers attending the conference.” San Jose is also a lot closer to Cupertino, California so it would make sense for the company.
Another reason why the announcement is coming so early this year is so that developers and the media can make travel plans for the event.
This is not the first time that Apple has had WWDC in San Jose. In the late-20th and early-21st century, the company held WWDC at the San Jose Convention Center for 14 straight years!
Apple’s lead keynote will likely be on June 5th if they go by their usual schedule. The company is expected to announce iOS 11 and macOS 13, along with the newest versions of watchOS and tvOS. As for any product announcements, nothing has been confirmed yet, but expect new updates to the iPad Pro and possibly a 4K version of the Apple TV.
Tickets for the event will go on sale in March. Apple sells WWDC tickets via a lottery format because the requests are pretty high.
You can expect to stream the keynote on Apple’s website, along with the WWDC apps in the iOS and tvOS App Stores.
