Hulu with Live TV came out today and although it is still a work in progress, for a launch day, the service held up pretty well. Obviously, this is still just a beta, but I have to say that it did impress me at times and with a little improvement, it could compete with other services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, and PlayStation Vue.Â
One thing that I liked about the service is that Hulu made it incredibly simple to start free-trials. With that said, the free trial should have been more than just a week, especially for people who are testing it out for the first time.
I did notice that the streams are behind the live broadcast by at least 30-45 seconds but based on the fact that it is the first day and that live television is hard to stream. Plus, it’s a lot better than using the WatchESPN app.
And lastly, the user interface could use some work. People on Twitter gave Hulu credit for how great they thought the UI looked.
This new @hulu Live TV app has one of the most beautiful UI’s I’ve ever seen.

Personally, I was not a fan of it since the tv guide for it is not good enough. When viewing channels, I don’t want the box to show me what is on. Instead, I want to see the channel logo and then in a tiny description box, I want to see what is on but in words; not a picture.
Other than the one tiny and one significant problem, I am going to give Hulu with Live TV 3/4 stars. It’s off to a good start, shows promise, has problems that could be fixed, and could be the next big thing not only in the new live TV streaming industry but also for the technology industry, as well.
Rating: 3/4 stars
