watchOS 5 developer beta 5 now available for download

Apple has just released watchOS 5 beta 5 for registered developers. So if you’re a developer; it’s time to update. This update will contain bug fixes alongside some new features and potential interface tweaks. Apple announced watchOS 5 back in June 2018 at it’s annual World Wide Developers Conference, WWDC18.

What’s New in Beta 5:

We’re still digging through the new beta – like a gold… okay we’ll leave that one there – so check back later for all the changes, additions, fixes and tweaks we find.

Summary of New Features:

watchOS 5 brings new workout types these being Yoga and Hiking which is great news as Apple seems to be bringing more workout types each year. That’s not the only change for the Workouts app as you will now receive workout start and stop notification reminders; pace alerts, cadence, rolling miles all for running workouts. New Apple Podcasts app bringing syncing and streaming to Apple Watch. New data sources – including third-party apps – for the Siri Watch Face; Walkie-Talkie app for better communication with your contacts. Also coming in watchOS 5 are Grouped Notifications which perform the same as in iOS 12.

Summary of Beta Changes:

  • Walkie-Talkie app shows friend suggestions.
  • New Breath app icon which matches the design found inside the Breath app.
  • Siri volume now independent of the system volume.
  • Walkie-Talkie app now respects Do Not Disturb.
  • New ‘Add’ buttons throughout the stock apps. e.g. inside the; weather, clock, stocks apps.
