Review: AirPods

Avatar for David Becker

On Black Friday 2018, I picked up a pair of AirPods, which was something I had planned to buy weeks in advance, despite the fact that Best Buy, the store that I bought it at, did not have any sort of deal or promotion on it (even though I tried to price-match Newegg). Still, I went through with the purchase.

Over the course of a week, I have been trying them out and see if they will be an acceptable replacement from my Beats headphones that I got back in 2015.

The first thing that I do like about these things is that they are incredibly portable. When I travel, I don’t like the idea of my headphones sitting in a suitcase or just being out in my car while I’m at a store or hotel (pending that I am the passenger). With the AirPods, I put them right back in their charging case and they go directly into my pocket. It does not get any better than that!

However, the most important thing is sound quality and the AirPods deliver on this. I have found that the bass is surprisingly pretty great. The clarity of the audio is great, as well!

Another item that people are probably wondering is whether or not they fall out if you are walking or running. I can say that in my experience with these that they have not fallen out yet, which is good to hear given how much money they cost. It would really suck to lose one of these.

When it comes to looks, yes, they look a little odd at first but then you do get used to them. Plus, I wore them with a suit, which I later put as my profile picture on all of my social media, therefore, I am completely okay with how they look.

I would also like to point out that if there was one thing that I did not see coming is that you can pair these to your Apple TV (4th generation or higher) and you can listen to the content coming from your Apple TV through the AirPods. This makes it so that if I am watching Hulu or any other apps on it, I can pair my AirPods to it and not disturb anyone in the room.

Last of all, the charging case is perfect for this device. I can fit both “Pods” in it and they start charging immediately. The battery on the AirPods and charging case last pretty long, which is great for people like me who use them a lot.

Overall, this is a 4/4 product in my eyes. They serve their job and purpose and work almost flawlessly. Once again, they are an Apple product that just work.
