Apple has brought down the price of its smart speaker, the HomePod, for its employees. This includes those who work for Apple at the corporate and retail levels of the company.

The reason for this right now is currently unknown, but it could mean that Apple is trying to get rid of its stock of the HomePod since there might be a new one on the way soon.

As for consumers, the HomePod regularly costs $299 through Apple, but has seen discounts this year alone at retailers like Best Buy and Target of it going down to $250.

It has already been reported just in the last week that Apple is set to be working on a new HomePod that could be unveiled and released this fall or in early 2021.

Technically, this $150 price for employees would make it so that Apple is actually losing money on the product because it costs $216 to make each HomePod.

We do not know if the reduced price is because of Apple making a new HomePod and trying to get rid of its current stock of the product, or if Apple is rewarding its employees during the coronavirus pandemic.
