Twitter will relaunch its verification program after closing it in 2017.
In a blog post today, Twitter is announcing that in the weeks ahead, users will be able to apply for verification which is to have a blue checkmark on their account. The company says that there are new criteria for anyone who wishes to get the blue badge.
To qualify for verification, you must fit the criteria of one of the six categories listed below:
- Government
- Companies, brands, and organizations
- News organizations and journalists
- Entertainment
- Sports and gaming
- Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals
The company says that users will be able to apply when they open Twitter then go to Settings and click on “Request Verification”.
You can apply for verification every 30 days, and once you apply, Twitter says that users can expect a response “within a few days,” but it may take more time depending on the volume of applications. All applications are analyzed by humans the company said.
If you are already a verified account, you don’t need to do anything, this application is only for users who want to become verified on the platform. You can find more information on Twitter’s verification policy page.
Other than the new verification program, Twitter also revealed an upcoming revamp of the user profile page.
The social media platform will redesign the profile page for every user with the addition of an “About” tab for people to express themselves, it would resemble the Facebook profile design.
“We think it’s important to know not only who an account is, and the information they’ve shared proactively, but also what an account is into ”” because we think that if you’re interested in an account, you might also be interested in what they’re interested in. And this space has the potential to make that a whole lot easier,”
The About tab will move many of the account fields from the bio. Fields to be included are pronouns, location, account confirmation, birthdate, and profession like “Translator”.
Twitter is making some big new features in addition to the verification program and profile revamp, such as Super Followers and Twitter Communities, with Twitter Blue as an additional subscription.
