A new feature that was supposed to originally be released late this year that allowed iPhone and Apple Watch users to store their driver’s license and IDs on is going to be delayed.
First discovered by MacRumors, Apple has updated the iOS 15 page on its website and shows support for that feature being pushed to early 2022.
Residents in Iowa, Arizona, Georgia, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah were set to be the first states to support this feature.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was set to be one of the first entities to allow people to use the feature. Instead of taking your ID out of your wallet to show to the worker, people would simply have the option to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch that would give the TSA the necessary information on that person. Authorization by the user would be done through Face ID or Touch ID on the iPhone.
Apple has yet to give an exact date for when the feature will be released, but it looks like it will be added to iOS 15 at some point in the first part of 2022.
