While it may not be in the U.S. currently, Walmart stores in Canada have had Apple Pay support for over a year now and are now accepting it on the company’s website.

According to a recent announcement made by Walmart Canada, its website, Walmart.ca, and app are now accepting Apple Pay.

The announcement was made to coincide with Walmart Canada’s new partnership with Interac Corp.

Jennifer Jones, Vice President, Financial Products, Services and Payments at Walmart Canada, stated that the new partnership between the two companies will give customers multiple options for payment.

“We know our customers want a seamless omnichannel shopping experience and we’re proud to offer it,” she said. “Adding Interac Debit for all online and in-app purchases is part of our plan to expand our service offering and to provide Canadians with consistency and inclusion when they shop with Walmart.”

Adeel Syed, Vice President and Commercial Partnerships at Interac Corp. said that the partnership will help give customers more contactless payment options too.

“Interac is proud to collaborate with Walmart Canada to help deliver a more unified, omnichannel payment experience through the acceptance of Interac Debit contactless payments in-store, and now for e-commerce payments online and in-app using Apple Pay,” he said. “Canadians have told us they want the option to use debit in online channels just as they would in-store during the pandemic and beyond, and now they can have the ability to do so at one of Canada’s leading retailers.”

Apple Pay is not accepted at Walmart’s stores in the United States at this time. Instead, American customers have the option to use Walmart Pay that is built into the Walmart app in the App Store.

Walmart Pay scans a QR code on the card reader at the manned or self-checkout register the customer is making a purchase from.
