Netflix and Microsoft partner for upcoming ad-supported version

It was announced today by Netflix that it is working with Microsoft for its upcoming ad-supported tier.

The new ad-supported plan is designed for customers that are not wanting pay the full-price for Netflix’s eventual ad-free plans that start at $9.99 a month, which is similar to other streaming service ad-free plans like Paramount+ and Peacock.

Netflix also stated Microsoft is its ideal partner regarding its newest advertising endeavor.

“Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we work together to build a new ad-supported offering. More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members.”

This new plan also comes at a time where the company did lose subscribers in its first quarter of the year. It was the first time Netflix had lost subscribers in 10 years.

Netflix has said that it is trying to fight the fight for those who share their accounts with family and friends, but not much has been said about exactly how it is combating it.

There is no release date for Netflix’s new ad-supported plan, but it could be released before the end of the year. If it is released sometime in the fall, it could make for an excellent opportunity for Netflix to cash-in early on holiday season ads.

Netflix is currently available to stream on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.
