Apple recently announced its new iPhone lineup at the “Far out” event, which includes iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. With this, the older iPhones like the iPhone 13, 13 minis (2021), and the iPhone 12 (2020) have received a $100 reduction in their price. The current iPhone lineup comprises only 5G supported phones as the iPhone 11 is now officially discontinued.

Apple now sells the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 12 at the same price of $599. The price might create confusion in the minds of buyers as to choosing which one of these iPhones. Here’s a detailed comparison between the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 12:

Display

The iPhone 13 mini features a 5.4-inch screen, whereas the iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch display. This might be a dealbreaker for someone who prefers the small compact size of a mini iPhone rather than a regular one. iPhone 13 mini typically has 800 nits max brightness instead of 625 nits in iPhone 12. Both iPhones ship with the OLED Super Retina XDR display.

Performance

The iPhone 13 mini is integrated with Apple’s A15 Bionic chip, and the iPhone 12 comes with an A14 Bionic chip. The iPhone 13 mini is expected to get one more major iOS update than the iPhone 12. Although Apple didn’t mention the upgrades to the A15 Bionic chip from the A14 Bionic chip, they perform pretty much the same according to benchmarks.

Camera

The Wide camera in the iPhone 13 mini can gather 47 percent more light for less noise and brighter results compared to the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 also offers the Sensor-shift in its optical image stabilization. The Smart HDR 4 in iPhone 13 mini improves color, contrast, and lighting for each subject in a group photo and in Night mode.

Cinematic mode on iPhone 13 mini records videos of people, pets, and objects with a beautiful depth effect with automatic focus changes. Apple also demonstrated that it could capture cinema-style moments. iPhone 13 mini can record HDR videos in 4K at 60 fps instead of 30 fps in iPhone 12.

Connectivity

Both the iPhones support 5G connectivity, but the iPhone 13 mini has more 5G bands which means that the iPhone 13 is more adapted to 5G. The number of bands varies with the country.

Battery

According to Apple, both iPhones have equal regular video playback duration, but the iPhone 13 mini provides two more hours of usage. Interestingly the iPhone 12 provides ten more hours of audio playback.

Final Verdict

We hope after going through this article, the readers might be able to make a better decision in buying an iPhone according to their personal preferences.

You did an excellent job with this detailed review of the new iPhone 13. Although iPhone 12 is my personal favorite, I was quite confused about which iPhone I should buy for my girlfriend. After reading a lot of buyer guides on buying the best iPhone, and landing on this page, I now know what to get her. Happy holidays!
