Blackmagic Design, the creator of DaVinci Resolve, has introduced a new Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone that brings enhanced digital camera control and the ability to record in up to 10-bit Apple ProRes in 4K.

In a press release, the company says the Blackmagic Camera “unlocks the power of the iPhone by adding digital film camera controls and operating systems. Now customers can create the same cinematic ‘look’ as Hollywood feature films. Customers get the same intuitive and user friendly interface as Blackmagic Design’s award winning cameras. So it’s just like using a professional digital film camera. This means customers can adjust settings such as frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO all in a single tap. Or record directly to Blackmagic Cloud in industry standard 10-bit Apple ProRes files up to 4K. Recording to Blackmagic Cloud Storage lets customers collaborate on DaVinci Resolve projects with editors anywhere in the world, all at the same time.”

The app allows users to adjust settings like frame rate, shutter, white balance, and ISO with a user-friendly interface. The app will also allow recording up to 10-bit Apple ProRes in 4K, which users can use to collaborate seamlessly in DaVinci Resolve.

“Blackmagic Camera is a truly revolutionary workflow for creating feature film quality content using an iPhone ,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “Blackmagic Camera adds professional camera features like frame rate, shutter angle, time of day timecode, ISO and white balance to the iPhone so our customers have similar controls as our professional cameras. Plus, the Blackmagic Cloud workflow lets customers record to Blackmagic Cloud Storage and automatically sync with DaVinci Resolve. Now they can get their footage to the newsroom or post production studio in minutes! I think it will be really exciting to find out how Blackmagic Camera will change traditional news and post production workflows.”

The Blackmagic Camera is available now in the Apple App Store. Blackmagic is offering the app free of charge.
