Apple looks to be making Apple Cash better for its users.

In the iOS 17.4 beta, it shows that the digital Apple Cash card in the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone has gotten a “Virtual Card Number,” according to Reddit users.

Apple Cash is acquired by users either sending money from iMessage which goes directly to the Apple Cash card once it is accepted. The other way is from Daily Cash on Apple Card purchases. It is Apple Card’s version of cash back.

What this would do is enable Apple Card users to make a purchase online when Apple Pay is not an accepted payment method. This could be relevant when making purchases from apps and websites like Amazon or Walmart that do not currently accept Apple Pay in the U.S.

A pop-up comes up in the Wallet app in iOS 17.4 which says this regarding the new Virtual Card Number feature:

“Set Up Virtual Card Number

Keep your card information safe with a new security code for every transaction.

Easily access this card number in Safari AutoFill and use it to shop online where Apple Pay is not available.”

After it has been set up, users are able to see the Virtual Card Number, security code, and more information regarding it. That feature has been available on Apple Card since it originally launched in 2019.

Apple has not announced a release date for iOS 17.4, but 9to5Mac has said it could be released sometime next month.
