Apple Intelligence will not be coming to the EU this year due to ‘regulatory uncertainties’

Apple yesterday announced that Apple Intelligence features will not be coming to the EU this year. In a statement to the Financial Times, the company cites that the features will not be coming due to ‘regulatory uncertainties’ caused by the Digital Markets Act which was passed by the European Commission last year.

Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.

Apple Intelligence is a platform that was announced earlier this month that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into Apple products to enhance user experiences. It includes generative AI tools for writing, editing, image creation, and organization, and is designed to protect user privacy. Apple Intelligence is built into the core of iPhones, iPads, and Macs through on-device processing, and can also draw on larger server-based models to handle more complex requests.

The company is expected to release a beta of Apple Intelligence later this September, with some AI Siri features not coming until 2025.
