We didn’t do a Streaming Picks article last month and I do apologize regarding that. However, it is a new year and that means you are probably going to be looking for content to stream since in most places in the U.S., it’s going to be pretty cold out.
With that said, here is what we think you should be streaming this month.
TV:
- “The Jetty”: If you are one that is really into true crime, this mini-series starring Jenna Coleman could be right what you are looking for to start the new year. It is currently available to stream on Hulu and BritBox.
- “Gilmore Girls”: Looking to stream a classic American TV series to start the new year? This popular TV show is now available to stream on both Netflix and Hulu.
- “Supernatural”: Here is another long series you can start streaming this year that has 15 seasons! It can currently be streamed on Netflix.
- “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown”: This is a TV special that originally released in 1986 and can be a nice family-friendly way to start 2025. It can be streamed exclusively on Apple TV+.
- “Severance” (Season 2): This series could be the next big hit for Apple TV+ as it goes into its second season, which is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 17.
Movies:
- “The Greatest Showman”: Who can’t resist a great movie like this? You could argue this was 2024’s “Wicked” before “Wicked” was released. This film can be streamed on both Disney+ and Hulu.
- “Henry Danger: The Movie”: It’s a family-friendly movie and based on the popular Nickelodeon TV series. This movie is scheduled to be available to stream on Paramount+ exclusively on Friday, January 17.
- “Divergent” Movie Series: If you’re looking to have a weekend or two of binging movies, the “Divergent” films are pretty good and can be streamed on Starz.
- “The Social Network”: For those out there that are looking to create their own business or start a major new project, this film about the founding and creation of Facebook has been one that I have personally used for years when I need that inspiration in my own life. It can be streamed on Prime Video.
- “We Are Your Friends”: Very much the same inspiration as the last movie mentioned, this is another one of those films where it can inspire you to live out your dreams or goals you have for yourself in 2025. It is available to stream on Prime Video and free to stream on PLEX.
Sports:
- College Football Playoff 2024-2025: This is the first year of the NCAA’s College Football Playoff. All games up to now will be broadcast on ESPN Networks. You can see the schedule for the upcoming games here.
- Select men’s college basketball games: There will be a number of games broadcast this month on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) that can be streamed live in 4K on devices like the Apple TV 4K.
- NFL Playoffs: We will be getting the NFL Playoffs later this month that will be available to broadcast live on FOX, CBS, ABC, and NBC, with one of the Wild Card games being a Peacock-exclusive. However, as for which games will be broadcast where and when, as this is being written, we still do not have that information yet since the regular season has not been completed yet. Any games that broadcast on CBS will be available to stream on Paramount+ and any games available on NBC will stream live on Peacock too.
- Lakers vs. Mavericks (NBA): What we have here could be an interesting matchup. This game will be played at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 7, on TNT and stream live on MAX.
- Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies (NBA): This game will air at 12:30 p.m. ET on Monday, January 20, on TNT and stream live on MAX.
