The upcoming iPhone 17 base model is rumored to feature a larger display than its iPhone 16 counterpart, according to recent leaks out of China and reports from industry analysts.

In May 2025, display analyst Ross Young claimed that the iPhone 17 would feature a 6.3-inch screen, compared to the 6.1-inches of the iPhone 16. Now, prolific leaker “Digital Chat Station” agrees. A post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo by the account “Digital Chat Station” claims that the lowest-end iPhone 17 model will sport a 6.3-inch display, an increase from the 6.1-inch display expected on the iPhone 16 model. Digital Chat Station, which has over three million followers on Weibo, has a history of accurately leaking Apple information.

Young’s display size predictions for the iPhone 17 series are as follows:

  • iPhone 17: 6.3-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Air: 6.6-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display

If accurate, the new iPhone 17 would match the screen size of the current iPhone 16 Pro. There is precedent for the base iPhone model and the Pro model having the same screen size, as seen with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro in 2023.

Despite the larger display, rumors suggest that the base iPhone 17 will be a relatively minor upgrade over the iPhone 16 base model. Both devices are anticipated to retain the same overall design and feature the same A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. However, key rumored upgrades for the lowest-end iPhone 17 include a display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate and a 24-megapixel front camera, compared to the iPhone 16’s 60Hz display and 12-megapixel front camera.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup later this year in September.
