Apple is reshuffling responsibilities among its top executives following the announcement that Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Williams will retire at the end of the year, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The reorganization focuses heavily on the Apple Watch and Health initiatives, with duties split among three key senior vice presidents:
- Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Services, will now oversee Apple’s health and fitness teams. This move aligns with the company’s plan to launch an AI-powered “Health+” subscription service next year.
- Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, will assume responsibility for watchOS software development.
- John Ternus, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, will take sole control of Apple Watch hardware engineering. Ternus is also a rumored top candidate to eventually succeed Tim Cook as CEO.
Williams’ operational duties have already been mostly transitioned. New COO Sabih Khan assumed oversight of the supply chain, operations, AppleCare, and China operations shortly after Williams’ July retirement announcement. Finally, the direct reporting line for the design team will move to CEO Tim Cook once Williams officially retires starting in 2026.
