In a significant step toward sustainability, Apple has revealed that over 90 percent of its manufacturing operations in China now rely on renewable energy sources. This achievement stems from a decade-long partnership with more than 100 suppliers, positioning the company firmly on the path to 100 percent renewable energy across all production by 2030.

Sabih Khan, Apple’s senior vice president of Operations, highlighted the suppliers’ role in this success. “Our suppliers in China are making rapid and exceptional progress transitioning to renewable energy,” Khan stated. “We’re proud to partner with them on this important effort.”

Apple’s suppliers have unveiled the new China Renewable Energy Infrastructure Fund, a 1 billion RMB (approximately $150 million USD) investment vehicle aimed at generating 1 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity for China’s grid by 2030.

This is jointly launched by CICC Capital and Huaneng Investment, it features anchor investor ATL (a key Apple battery supplier) alongside companies like Avionics Holdings, Suzhou Dongshan Precision, Hon Hai Precision, and Yutong Technology.

Geng Jibin, CEO of ATL, emphasized the fund’s potential. “We’re honored to partner with so many Apple suppliers to invest in China’s clean future,” he said. “This new fund will take this to the next level.”

Apple’s China milestone fits into a larger narrative of corporate responsibility. Since 2015, the company has slashed its greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 percent, targeting carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain by 2030. These reductions span manufacturing, product design, and corporate operations, setting a benchmark for the tech industry.
