Discussions for a potential sequel to Apple’s successful F1 film are underway, according to director Joseph Kosinski. In an interview with Variety, Kosinski confirmed that the creative team is actively exploring ideas for a follow-up movie.

When asked about the status of a sequel, Kosinski stated they are “in that stage of just kind of dreaming up what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes would be and for Apex GP.” This confirms that the story’s continuation is in active, albeit early, development.

The interviewer from Variety also noted a previous conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook, who reportedly expressed positive sentiment toward discussions for a sequel. Kosinski attributed the momentum for a sequel to the film’s global reception.

The director expressed his own interest in returning to the project, contingent on finding the right story. “I’d be happy, happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one,” Kosinski said. While still in the conceptual phase, the interest from both the creative team and Apple signals a strong possibility for the F1 story to continue.
