In a surprising move for a company known for its workforce stability, Apple has eliminated dozens of sales roles within its corporate structure. As reported by Bloomberg, these cuts are part of a broader effort to streamline how the tech giant offers products to businesses, schools, and government agencies.

Management began notifying affected workers over the past few weeks. The cuts have reportedly extended across the sales organization, hitting specific teams harder than others. While Apple has not publicly disclosed the exact number of roles involved, sources indicate that the move has come as a shock to many inside the company, particularly given Apple’s current financial strength.

The restructuring specifically targets account managers responsible for serving major businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies. Apple confirmed the reshuffling on Monday, framing the decision as a strategic pivot rather than a financial necessity. A spokesperson for the company stated, “To connect with even more customers, we are making some changes in our sales team that affect a small number of roles. We are continuing to hire, and those employees can apply for new roles.”

Internally, the company is positioning these changes as a way to eliminate overlapping responsibilities. However, insiders suggest a shift in strategy is at play. Apple appears to be moving more sales responsibilities to third-party resellers, as some organizations prefer working with indirect sellers. This shift allows Apple to lower internal operational costs.

Several weeks ago, Apple cut approximately 20 positions in its sales teams in Australia and New Zealand. As VP of Sales and Business Development, Vivek Thakkar takes on expanded responsibilities overseeing all enterprise and education sales; all eyes will be on how this streamlined approach impacts Apple’s dominance in the institutional market.
