Today, both Apple and Google confirmed that Gemini will be the pillar of Apple Foundation Models, unlocking new Apple Intelligence features and a long-awaited personalized Siri.
According to a statement from Apple to Jim Cramer of CNBC, “After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,”
The news has also been officially shared by Google itself in a post on X that says: “Joint Statement: Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.
After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.”
Apple Intelligence and the new Siri were first announced at WWDC 2024 alongside iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Features such as Writing Tools, Image Playground, Clean Up, Priority Notifications, and Notification Summaries made their way to the final public release. However, other features such as Deeper App Controls, Personalized Siri, and On-Screen Awareness were delayed to 2026, even though they were expected to arrive in iOS 18.4.

When is the new Siri coming?
We can expect the new era of Apple Intelligence to arrive with iOS/iPadOS/macOS 26.4 with an overhaul to Siri in terms of its intelligence. The first betas are expected to arrive in February with an aim for final release in March or April.
The Gemini model will run on Apple’s own servers and will follow their Privacy Protocols instead of using Google’s servers.
This official announcement aligns with Mark Gurman’s report on Bloomberg in November, which stated that Apple was in the process of finalizing the payment terms of nearly $1 Billion a year for a 1.2 trillion parameter model.
