Yesterday, Apple rolled out iOS 26.6 Release Candidate to beta testers. The update comes with a new alert or warning when a user tries to exceed the limit of blocked contacts. However, that’s not the only feature coming in the update.
As iOS 27 includes major new features including new Screen Time options, improvements to Liquid Glass, improvements to performance, and the new Siri AI, Apple has added one more feature to iOS 26.6 to prepare iPhones for iOS 27.
According to the Release Notes of iOS 26.6, “This update includes bug fixes, security updates and optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27.

Since the new Siri AI now supports features like Personal Context, it is essential for it to be tightly integrated with Spotlight Search so that Siri knows you.
Several users who installed the first developer beta of iOS 27 reported that Spotlight Indexing was taking too long, with some devices taking almost two weeks, depending upon the data present on the iPhone.
Now, the iPhone will have plenty of time to index before the September release of iOS 27, after which users can access the full power of the new Siri AI without any delay.
This update will be one of the last major updates to version 26 before iOS 27 takes over. All iOS 26 supported devices starting from the iPhone 11 will support iOS 27.
Apple is expected to release the final update to the public next week unless they release a second Release Candidate.
Users who are registered as a developer on www.developer.apple.com can opt in to receive beta updates by going into Settings>General>Software Update>Beta Updates and selecting Developer Beta.
Do note that these versions are not stable and are meant for testing purposes.
