Alongside the launch of Google’s new health tracker – the Fitbit Air earlier in May, Google also revamped the Fitbit app and renamed it to Google Health to work across several trackers. Up until now, the Google Health app could only read data from the Apple Health app; however, with today’s update, it will also be able to write data to Apple Health, including data from the new Fitbit Air.
According to Google, version 5.05 includes:
- General stability improvements and bug fixes.
- Sync to Apple Health: Share your data like your exercise records, sleep, vitals, steps, and more from Google Health to Apple Health.
- Smart Health Links: Create a Smart Health Link to share your medical records with your provider or family.
After updating, Google Health might ask you to enable certain permissions to write data to Apple Health. This native capability is a first for Fitbit trackers, as users previously had to resort to third-party tools. This update goes beyond the Fitbit Air to support any wearable or tracker that does not natively support Apple Health but supports Google Health.
