Apple Watch users have another chance to earn a special Activity Challenge this month. Apple will host its 2026 National Parks Challenge on Sunday, August 23, giving users a simple way to take part.

The challenge encourages users to get moving by completing at least 20 minutes of a qualifying workout on the event date.

How to complete the challenge

Apple has kept the requirements straightforward. Users can complete a walk, run, hike, or wheelchair workout for 20 minutes or longer on August 23.

The challenge does not require participants to visit a national park or complete a particular route. Instead, Apple allows users to choose from the supported workout types and record their activity through the Apple Watch.

Once the workout reaches the 20-minute mark, the user should meet the requirements for the National Parks Challenge award.

A new award and animated stickers

Completing the challenge will give participants a special virtual trophy in the Activity app.

Apple will also provide a collection of animated stickers that users can share through Messages, FaceTime, and other supported apps.

The sticker collection is expected to include an animated version of the challenge trophy, along with animations featuring a flying bird, a person hiking, and someone setting up a tent.

These rewards give Apple Watch users another reason to participate while adding a small National Parks-themed touch to the Activity experience.

When is the challenge?

The 2026 National Parks Challenge takes place on August 23.

Apple Watch users should keep an eye out for a notification as the event approaches. The reminder is expected to appear on compatible devices closer to the weekend.

If you want to complete the challenge, make sure your workout begins on August 23 and lasts for at least 20 minutes. Since the challenge supports several workout types, users can choose an activity that fits their routine.

Another way Apple encourages activity

Apple regularly organizes special Activity Challenges around events, holidays, and other occasions. These challenges typically give Apple Watch users a specific goal to complete within a limited period.

The National Parks Challenge follows that same approach, but with a theme centered around outdoor activities and exploration.

You don’t need to take a trip to a national park to participate. A qualifying 20-minute workout recorded on the specified date should be enough to earn the award.

For Apple Watch owners looking for a quick fitness goal this weekend, the August 23 challenge offers an easy opportunity to add another achievement to their collection.
