A new leak links Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone to the iPhone Air. Specifically, the source is a leaker who goes by “Fixed Focus Digital.”
According to the report, Apple modified the equipment it once used for the iPhone Air. Because of this change, that equipment now shapes more rounded glass parts. As a result, Apple plans to use these parts on next year’s anniversary model.
Several benefits came out of this shift. For instance, manufacturing costs went down. In addition, heat dissipation got better. Meanwhile, the phone also became thinner. Furthermore, this isn’t the only report pointing this way.
A previous report from the same leaker laid the groundwork. In that report, the leaker claimed a supply chain facility had wrapped up renovations. Specifically, Apple built that facility for “iPhone 20” production. Therefore, the expected result is manufacturing quality close to the original iPhone Air.
Nothing beats the iPhone Air for thinness right now. Its body measures only 5.6mm. Additionally, a titanium frame surrounds its glass back. Consequently, Apple now seems set on carrying that formula into its next major phone.
However, none of this comes as a total surprise. In fact, talk of a glass-heavy redesign has circulated for over a year. Similarly, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman added his own account earlier. According to Gurman, Apple wants a nearly all-glass iPhone with a display free of cutouts. Moreover, curved glass would run along every edge of the frame.
As a result, both accounts line up well. Indeed, each one describes the same seamless, glass-first look.
Meanwhile, a rough timeline is forming. Specifically, fall 2027 stands as the expected launch window for the anniversary lineup. Before that, however, spring 2027 looks busy on its own. During that stretch, the iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air should all arrive.
Still, a grain of salt applies here. After all, one unverified leaker is behind this entire claim, and Apple itself has said nothing. In addition, some other rumors even point toward possible delays. Even so, the same theme keeps showing up across separate reports. Therefore, something ambitious does seem to be in the works at Apple, and the iPhone Air may well be shaping that outcome.
Ultimately, time and the run-up to 2027 should bring more clarity.
