Apple yesterday announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its “Surprise and shine” event, along with the long-awaited foldable, the iPhone Duo, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Ultra 4. The iPhone 18 Pro brings a much-awaited smaller Dynamic Island, a Variable Aperture Main Camera, a larger battery, a more efficient 2nm A20 Pro chipset, and more. The A20 Pro chip on the iPhone 18 Pro is now based on a 2nm architecture with a 6-core CPU (including 2-super cores), enabling 20% better performance, a 7-core GPU, offering up to 40% faster performance, and a 32-core Neural Engine. The iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 2x better sustained performance when compared to the iPhone 16 Pro due to its significant improvement in thermals, with cooling being three times better.

With that said, benchmark test results purportedly of the new A20 Pro chip have started to roll in. A new result from Geekbench 6 found by @jimmyjames_tech on X reveals a single-core score of 4725 and a multi-core score of 12575 for the model identifier iPhone19,3.

There are a few more results for the model identifier iPhone19,2, which are similar in results:

The iPhone 17 Pro with the A19 Pro chip has a single-core score in the 3900 range, with the multi-core score being around 10000, which marks an approximate increase of 21% and 25% in performance, respectively, when compared to the A19 Pro chip.

A Geekbench 7 result is also live, as found by the same user, with the A20 Pro scoring 4006 in single-core and 11460 in multi-core, marking an approximate increase of 25% and 28% in performance, respectively, when compared to the A19 Pro chip.

A metal score of 62898 marks a 45% increase when compared to the iPhone 17 Pro and a 125% increase when compared to the iPhone 16 Pro in terms of GPU.

While these tests are based on short time periods, the improved cooling on the iPhone 18 Pro will definitely be beneficial during real-world usage, as it will be capable of providing more sustained performance.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for 256GB, $1,399 for 512GB, $1,799 for 1TB, and $2,399 for 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro Max, on the other hand, starts at $1,299 for 256GB, $1,499 for 512GB, $1,899 for 1TB, and $2,499 for 2TB. The phone comes in four new finishes: Black, Silver, Glacier, and a new Burgundy colour. Pre-orders will begin on September 12th, starting at 5:00 a.m. PT, and the iPhone 18 Pro will be available on September 18th.
