iPhone Duo’s Hidden Setting Could Fix Case Compatibility Issues

As per the report from Nicolas Lellouche on X, who spent hands-on time on the iPhone Duo’s settings menu, a new display option has surfaced called “Shift Left Edge.” Turning it on adds a thicker black border along the left side of the outer screen, effectively creating a fake bezel that pushes content away from the device’s folding edge.

Apple’s own description for the setting explains its purpose directly, stating that it moves content whenever someone is using a case that partially covers the left edge of the iPhone Duo’s outer display. Based on the short demo video Lellouche shared, enabling the setting roughly doubles the width of the existing black bezel already running along that edge of the screen.

What’s still unclear is exactly which cases would actually require this adjustment in the first place. Apple currently sells two official case options for the foldable: the iPhone Duo Case and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand. Neither one appears to overlap the outer screen’s left edge in a way that would obscure visible content, at least based on what’s known about them so far without extensive hands-on testing.

That leaves open the possibility that Apple built this setting with something else in mind entirely. Third-party accessory makers often design bulkier or more rugged cases than Apple’s own first-party options, and some of those designs could plausibly extend further over the screen’s edge. If that’s the case, Shift Left Edge might exist specifically to keep the display looking clean and unobstructed regardless of which case someone ends up using, rather than being tied to any particular Apple-made accessory.

More details should surface as the device gets closer to its official release. The iPhone Duo goes on sale October 23, giving both Apple and third-party case makers a bit more time before buyers start testing this setting against their case of choice in the real world.
