It seems as though history is going to repeat itself for JCPenney.
JCPenney was seen to have brought Apple Pay support last fall, but now the company has once again removed Apple Pay support from its website and app.
On the JCPenney website, the only two methods for payment are by customers typing in their credit/debit card information in the checkout while making an order or by using PayPal as a third-party payment method.
JCPenney briefly removed Apple Pay from its stores in April 2019, which we reported. After backlash from customers on Twitter, the company brought support for Apple Pay back to its stores in June 2019.
This all comes as it looks as though the company could be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy soon.
It is unknown if Apple Pay is still accepted in JCPenney retail stores since they are all closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. We will not know if the stores are going to be accepting it until they reopen it after the pandemic and self-quarantine have ended in the United States.
