It has been confirmed through the Kroger Twitter account that Apple Pay and contactless payment acceptance is not going to be coming to Kroger grocery stores anytime soon.
Instead, it would appear as though the Kroger-owned grocery stores, Quality Food Centers (QFC), will be accepting Apple Pay and not Kroger’s grocery stores.
Hello Ian. As of right now, only our QFC stores in the Pacific Northwest are accepting Apple and Google Pay. Thanks and have a great weekend.

This comes at a time when other stores across the U.S. have begun to accept Apple Pay over the last few months during the coronavirus pandemic. It even includes Publix, which was an Apple Pay hold out for many years until this past spring when it was added to its stores.
Whether or not Kroger will be adding Apple Pay to its grocery stores at a later date remains to be seen.
