According to a new report by German tech blog Macerkopf, Spotify has begun rolling out streaming support to more Apple Watch users.

Spotify has been testing this feature since September, but now it seems the company is making it more widely available.

Customers have been requesting Spotify to allow them to stream music away from their iPhones for several years, as Spotify only treated their Apple Watch app as a remote control for your iPhone.

Back in September, Spotify began rolling out and testing streaming support to a small number of users. Now, according to Macerkopf, they are expanding their testing to include more customers who weren’t originally part of the beta testing group.

The report says that some customers are seeing this message when they open their Apple Watch app: “Would you like to stream Spotify on your Apple Watch? Choose it here.”

“The testers report that they can use the Apple Watch app of the streaming service autonomously without an iPhone to stream music and podcasts over the cellular network or WiFi. This significantly enhances the Spotify app. Over the weekend, Spotify has apparently started to make the feature available to a larger group of its users,” says Macerkopf, in a translated message.

In order for the feature to work, customers need to have either a cellular Apple Watch or be connected to Wi-Fi with an active Spotify Premium subscription. Let us know in the comments below if you have begun seeing this message. We hope to see this feature go public by the end of the year.

Spotify Premium costs $9.99 per month and is available to stream on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac.
