Apple is preparing to launch a 2022 iPad Air this spring that sports features like 5G, Center Stage, A15 Bionic chip, 12MP ultra-wide front camera, and Quad-LED True Tone.
The Cupertino-based giant refreshed the iPad lineup with the iPad Air 4 that was unveiled in September 2020 featuring a design with squared-off edges that follow the trend Apple has been doing to its products, smaller bezels, A14 Bionic, Touch ID on the power button, support for Apple Pencil 2, and more.
According to Chinese sources informing Japanese outlet Macotakara, Apple is planning to launch a 2022 iPad Air this spring alongside the iPhone SE 3:
“According to a credible Chinese source, in the spring of 2022, the iPad Air (5th generation) could also be announced along with the iPhone SE (3rd generation).”
From what we see, Apple is giving the iPad Air a small refresh to keep the product up to date with other iPad brands in the family. With mostly the same design and the inclusion of the A15 Bionic, Center Stage, 5G connectivity for cellular models, and wide camera lens for both the front and rear.
Apple is expected to hold a spring event in either March or April of this year, with announcements of the highly-anticipated reveal of the iPhone SE 3 and potentially other new products.
The Japanese outlet did report that the iPhone SE 3 will debut in early 2022 and feature 5G, but the design of the device is still torn between the current model and inspiration from the iPhone XR.
