Apple is trying to do everything in its power to make the car of tomorrow a pleasant and convenient experience.
It has been reported by Reuters that CarPlay users will be able to purchase gas from their cars by as soon as this fall with the release of iOS 16 to the public.
Reuters did say that fuel companies would be able to have their own apps available on CarPlay for users to purchase gas from. This could be so customers could add their payment methods into the app so they could purchase gas from said gas station chain in the future and make the process much faster.
By doing this, it would make it so users would not have to slide or tap their credit/debit card into a card reader, or go inside the gas station to purchase the fuel that way.
So far, Sinclair is said to be the first announced gas stations that plans to take advantage of this new technology with CarPlay, according to its senior vice president of marketing, Jack Barger.
“We are excited by the idea that consumers could navigate to a Sinclair station and purchase fuel from their vehicle navigation screen,” he said.
This is not the first time we have seen something like this when it comes to consumer goods and services being purchased over systems like CarPlay.
As it is right now, CarPlay users that have the Dunkin’ app on their CarPlay can technically make purchases from that app and pick it up at their chosen location.
