As a belated birthday gift to myself, I got the iPad Air fifth generation that was released in March 2022, and to make a long story short, it has changed the way I view and use an iPad.

When I made the initial purchase this past May, I did make sure to also buy the Apple Magic Keyboard with it too because I did intend on using this for my writing not only here on Appleosophy, but also for personal blogging and Day One Journal entries.

Throughout this past summer, I have had nothing but fun writing on this thing. It’s to the point where I have used it for more writing than on my MacBook Pro where I used to do all of my writing. This is not to say that I don’t use the laptop anymore because I do. It just doesn’t have as much prevalence in my life anymore.

What I have liked about the newest iPad Air, other than the specs and the quality of the screen, is it being the perfect size. It does not feel too large or small, just the perfect type of tablet to have in my work backpack.

The sound of the keyboard is much nicer than how the Butterfly Mechanism keyboard sounds on my MacBook Pro. Granted, they both sound great, but the Magic Keyboard on my iPad Air is certainly more comfortable to use.

To give myself the full test of not using much of a laptop, over Labor Day Weekend, I went home to see my mom and did not bring my MacBook Pro. This is the first time I have ever done something like that. I only brought my iPad Air to do my writing on.

In an effort to make a long story short, I can say it was a massive success and I did not have much of an issue getting any writing done from there with just this iPad Air.

Another notable aspect of the iPad Air is it makes for a good video viewing device. Just in the past week, I streamed both the September 2022 Apple Event and part of an NFL game via NFL+ on it. With it being not too big and not too small gives it quite a great advantage, and is a win for consumers everywhere.

The only thing that I would say I’d like to get for it would be the Apple Pencil 2. I do not have a huge use for it, but I think I have just enough of one to maybe make a case for myself to buy one someday.

If I had to say one thing about it I do not like it I wish the Grammarly extension in Safari worked better. It currently has it so it will underline a word, but when you drag your cursor over it, it won’t show you additional options for what to do.

The good news is there is a workaround for it in the extension. I simply wish it would work more like its Mac Safari extension.

Despite the very small issues I have had with this iPad Air, it has been, without a doubt in my mind, the best Apple product (and accessory) I have purchased this year and I look forward to using it in the fall and winter months.
