Apple has started rolling out iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 to the public with bug fixes and important security updates. These updates address 16 security vulnerabilities with Find My, WebKit, and more. Several kernel vulnerabilities have also been addressed in these updates.
These updates come almost two weeks after the release of Rapid Security Response (c) for iOS 16.5.1 & iPadOS 16.5.1 which fixed an actively exploited security vulnerability. Apple keeps refining the software experience with every 16.x update whilst also fixing security issues with Rapid Security Response updates. These could be one of the last updates to iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 as Apple shifts its main focus onto iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which are likely to be released to the public in September of this year.

In addition to iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6, Apple has also released iOS 15.7.8 and iPadOS 15.7.8 for older devices with bug fixes and security improvements. The oldest supported devices are the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPod touch (7th generation), iPad Air 2, and iPad mini (4th generation). Apple ended support for these devices with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. However, it is simply amazing to see them provide security updates till date for devices that are up to 9 years old, making Apple a clear winner in terms of Security & Software updates.
