Apple is now enabling users to see their bank account balances in the United Kingdom through its Open Banking API, according to 9to5Mac.
With the new update that is said to be released in an iOS 17 developer update. Users can see their current account balance, deposits and payments that have come out of their account, and purchase history.
This will work for the user now as long as they have a credit or debit card that is on their iPhone for Apple Pay usage with a bank that supports the feature.
Banks that currently support this feature are Barclays, Lloyds, RBS and Starling.
What makes this situation unique to Apple and its customers is typically features like these are US-only, but it makes this a special circumstance since this feature is said to be UK-only because “the existence of an interoperable open banking standard in the country” and getting a feature like this in the US, as well as across the country, is “much less clear.”
