Apple has started sending emails out to customers about incoming changes to the terms and conditions of Apple Cash beginning sometime in the fall.
Once iOS 18 and watchOS 11 are launched this fall, they will introduce a new feature called “Tap to Cash” that will enable users to put their iPhone or Apple Watch near another iPhone or Apple Watch, and send cash to one another peer-to-peer-like.
Now Apple is going to be changing up and requiring the identification requirements for Apple Cash.
Beginning October 4, Apple will make it a requirement for iPhone and Apple Watch users to verify their identities when they are sending $500 or more of cash via Apple Cash in iMessage and Tap to Cash payments. This will be needed whether the user is sending money from an Apple Cash balance or from a credit or debit card in their Wallet app.
The company does already require identity verification when using Apple Cash for users who use the service often. However, Apple documents state that users will not be able to receiver $500 or more without verifying their identity, starting this October.
To verify identity with Apple Cash, that will require the user to take a photo of their drivers license or ID card, along with answering personal questions such as a home address, date of birth, and social security number.
Apple also said in its email to customers that it plans on adding the Apple Vision Pro headset as a supported device for Apple Cash.
