Apple announced its brand new products to the iPhone lineup at its ‘Glowtime’ event on September 9th ”“ iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, taking technology to the next level.

The iPhone 16 series is powered by the second generation 3nm chips from the Apple family – A18 and A18 Pro, with both the regular and Pro models featuring similar new features and changes. The limelight falls on the new Camera Control Button, which is also interactive, and available on all four new models. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, powered by the new A18 Pro chip feature a larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR Display, but they now come with even slimmer bezels for a more futuristic look.

All four iPhone models including iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with 8GB of RAM, the only performance difference between the regular and the Pro models is the lack of one GPU core on the A18 chip for the regular iPhone.

The initial results from Geekbench have already started rolling in, with the first set of results being that of the CPU. You can check out the performance gains by clicking here.

The highlighting feature of the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series is Apple Intelligence, which was announced during WWDC back in June 2024, as a part of iOS 18. To facilitate even better performance of Apple Intelligence, the Neural Engine on the A18 and A18 Pro chips are now considerably faster. Here’s a comparison between the A18 Pro chip and the A17 Pro chip:

iPhone 16 Pro Max (A18 Pro):

Single Precision Score: 4374 (+9.46%)

Half Precision Score: 32310 (+32.52%)

Quantized Score: 45063 (+34.11%)

iPhone 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro):

Single Precision Score: 3996

Half Precision Score: 24382

Quantized Score: 33602

This means that Apple Intelligence, along with other AI tasks should perform much better and faster on the iPhone 16 lineup. These tests were conducted on iOS 18.0, which also enabled better Neural Engine performance on the A17 Pro. If you are still running iOS 17, your iPhone 15 Pro will score much lower than the scores above.
