It was announced this morning that the Disney+ app is going to be getting a design overhaul, but one that promises to bring all of Disney’s big brands closer together in a swifter, more organized and simpler way to showcase them to users.
The first change comes with a new rounded bar across the screen that will show a “For You” page that will obviously highlight TV shows and movies it thinks or predicts you will like to stream or continue watching.
The other three sections are the brands of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.
With the Disney+ section, you will get to see Disney+ content only such as the new live-action “Lilo & Stitch” film that was released earlier this year, along with other Disney+ Originals and overall Disney+ exclusive content like “Bluey,” “The Mandalorian,” and the “Doctor Who” 60th Anniversary Specials along with its seasons one and two with Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor.
Hulu’s section is where you will see the Hulu-only content like “Only Murders in the Building,” the “King of the Hill” reboot, along with new content from Disney-owned networks like ABC, FOX, and FX.
Lastly, with the ESPN section, that can be a place where users find on-demand content such as ESPN Originals, but focusing more so on live content like NFL “Monday Night Football,” “SportsCenter,” and other live ESPN-based sports programming.
Of course, all of that will be dependent on which streaming services your Disney+ plan has, whether that is just Disney+ or if you have bundles like the Hulu with Disney+ bundle, or bundles that include Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ or ESPN Select/Unlimited.
There are more plans too to have sections dedicated to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic content, as well as a “Live” tab that will show a channel guide of live channels the streaming services has. This would not be specifically like linear channels like ESPN or Disney Channel, but more like ABC News Live, a channel dedicated to showing “The Simpsons,” and what is called “Disney+ Playtime” that shows a variety of different Disney Junior TV shows and movies.
Other adds to this new interface will be badges and tags for season finales, new series, and badges that highlight and showcase when there is a new movie on these streaming platforms.
These design changes do come at a time where Disney is trying to make Hulu a global brand. In Disney’s international markets, it uses “Star” as the branding for Hulu content.
We do not have an official launch date for these changes but are told they are coming soon.
