General Motors has announced a significant expansion of its in-vehicle entertainment capabilities by integrating Apple Music directly into select 2025 and newer Cadillac and Chevrolet models. Starting today, this allows the Apple Music app to operate natively within the vehicle’s infotainment system. This integration eliminates the requirement for a tethered smartphone connection, granting drivers immediate access to the platform’s extensive library, curated playlists, and live global radio stations.
While CarPlay has long been the standard for integrating Apple services into the car, native integrations enable deeper connections with the vehicle’s hardware. By running directly on GM’s software platform, the Apple Music app can leverage the vehicle’s performance and advanced audio systems more effectively. Because it is integrated with the vehicle’s system, voice assistants can be used for hands-free control, ensuring eyes stay on the road while queuing up the next track.
For Cadillac customers, this integration unlocks Apple Music’s library of Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. This feature transforms the car cabin into a three-dimensional sound environment. For example, in the 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ, the app utilizes a 23-speaker AKG audio system to position sound elements in distinct physical spaces, offering a studio-quality listening experience that standard stereo cannot match.
One of the biggest hurdles for native car apps has historically been the cost of data plans. GM is addressing this by including audio streaming through “OnStar Basics” for all 2025 and newer vehicles in the U.S. and Canada at no additional costs. This means customers can stream music, audiobooks, and podcasts via Apple Music without paying extra for vehicle data connectivity for eight years after purchasing their vehicle.
The rollout begins today via an over-the-air software update. The app will appear automatically in eligible vehicles, allowing existing subscribers to sign in immediately.
