WWDC 2026 is set to commence on Monday, June 8th, with the main event taking place on the first day, where Apple is expected to announce the next iteration of its software platforms, such as iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. The new releases are expected to feature refinements to the overall software and Apple Intelligence features.

iOS 27 is expected to include further refinements to Liquid Glass, new Apple Intelligence features, better software performance, and more. Upcoming Apple Intelligence features will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 models.

However, new information from ‘Instant Digital’ on Weibo suggests that four iPhone models will not receive support for updating to iOS 27. In the list of supported devices shared by ‘Instant Digital’, iOS 27 will require an iPhone 12 or later, meaning that the following iPhone models may no longer be supported:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)

All these devices feature the A13 Bionic chip, with the only difference being RAM. The iPhone 11 series, which launched in September of 2019, shipped with 4GB of RAM, while the budget iPhone SE (2nd generation), which launched in April of 2020, shipped with 3GB of RAM.

It seems that the limitation is based on the chipset and not the RAM, as even the base iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models feature 4GB of RAM.

If this holds true, then we also might see Apple drop support for iPadOS 27 for devices such as the base iPad 8th and 9th generation, featuring the A12 Bionic and A13 Bionic chipsets, respectively, with 3GB of RAM.

Even though these devices might not receive the latest iOS 27 update, they will continue to receive security updates from Apple with iOS 26. Apple has a great record of providing security updates to devices that are over 7-8 years old.
