Apple’s Online Store went down a while back as Apple was “making updates” to the store. It turns out that the said updates were related to pricing of several Apple Products, including Macs and iPads.
This move comes after Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook officially told The Wall Street Journal that Apple would eventually have to raise prices in view of the rising costs of memory and storage components.
“Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable. We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” -Tim Cook.
Apple’s budget MacBook Neo, which launched back in March of this year, is now priced at $699 up from $599 for the base configuration.
The 13-inch M5 MacBook Air now starts at $1,299 instead of $1,099, while the 15-inch variant starts at $1,499 instead of $1,299.
The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro now starts at $1,999 instead of $1,699. iMac now starts at $1,499 instead of $1,299 and the Mac Studio sees a substantial price jump to $2,499 with it previously being $1,999.
The base iPad with the A16 chip sees a $100 price increase, now costing $449 instead of $349. The iPad Air on the other hand now starts at $749, up from $599, marking a $150 rise.
The highest price increase on an iPad is $200, with the 11-inch Pro models starting at $1,199 instead of $999. Similarly, the 13-inch Pro model starts at $1,499, up from $1,299.
The prices mentioned are only for the base variants for each model, and customers opting for a configuration with higher memory or storage will have to pay an even higher price when compared to the prices before. For example, the 16” MacBook Pro with the M5 Max (18-core CPU, 40-core GPU), 128GB of unified memory, and 8TB of storage now costs $9,999!
Additionally, Apple has also increased prices for the following products:
- Apple Vision Pro (M5): $3,699 (previously $3,499)
- Apple TV: $199 (previously $129)
- HomePod: $349 (previously $299)
- HomePod mini: $129 (previously $99)
If you want to secure a new MacBook or iPad before the price hike comes into action, Amazon is currently offering various deals for you to lock in at a price even lower than Apple’s previous pricing. Check the deals out here.
Apple shared the following statement with Reuters today:
“We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly,” “We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac.”
This is just the beginning, as this move now strongly points towards price increases for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, as they are no longer expected to start at $1,099, and $1,299 respectively. iPhone prices currently remain unchanged, and it does not seem like they’ll increase it before the new launch in September.
