Opinion: The Mac app I recommend the most for students in 2026

Colleges and high schools across America will be starting in the coming weeks, if they have not already begun.

Since Apple released the MacBook Neo this past March, a lower-cost MacBook that starts at just $699, it could be said that part of its intention was to get more high school and college students, as well as K-12 and colleges to start thinking of using the Mac as a legitimate educational tool.

There are many apps in the App Store that students and teachers can download and use in their weekly or daily educational lives, but there is one that can be a legitimate lifesaver.

That app is the brand new Pastebot 3 for Mac. It was released just last month.

What makes this app so special is that when it is open on your Mac, it saves everything you copy or Command + C on. This can be useful when writing papers and have different versions of sentences you’ve used, or perhaps you are copying your online citations and need to use Pastebot to keep track of the links you have copied.

Even though it has been a while for me since I was in college (I graduated in May 2019), I can say that I used the previous version of Pastebot in college. I was a journalism major, so writing papers and tracking online sources and citations was quite important.

The design of the app is simple and friendly to use, which is something Tapbots has been known for over a decade when it comes to its apps.

There is a downside to this app which is that after a 14-day free trial, there is a subscription. Its premium tiers are either $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year. Of course, Pastebot is available to download on not just the MacBook Neo, but MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and pretty much any current Mac.

If you are a student that either writes a lot of papers or finds yourself having to retrace your steps, in terms of what you have Command + C’ed previously, then yes, Pastebot is a great app for that.
