Apple today announced the long-awaited foldable, the iPhone Duo, at its “Surprise and shine” event, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Ultra 4. The foldable has a 7.6-inch inner display with an under-display FaceTime camera for the first time ever on the iPhone, and a 5.4-inch outer display with a hole-punch camera cutout in the top-right corner.

However, it still does not match the iPhone 18 Pro in terms of some specifications. Here’s what it is missing:

  1. Variable Aperture: The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max added support for variable aperture in the 48MP Main Camera; however, the iPhone Duo does not have it.
  2. LiDAR Scanner: A sensor that has been present on all Pro iPhones since the iPhone 12 Pro is missing on this $1,999 iPhone.
  3. Telephoto lens: While the iPhone Duo’s 48MP Main Fusion camera can click 2x telephoto-quality photos, it does not replace a conventional Telephoto lens, which is present on the iPhone 18 Pro and earlier Pro models.
  4. ProRAW, ProRes, and Log: The iPhone Duo lacks these features and Pro controls.
  5. Apple Reference Image: This is a new way to identify images shot on an iPhone, and it is present on pictures shot from the iPhone 18 Pro’s Main lens, but not on the iPhone Duo.
  6. Action Button: This button has been present on the iPhone 15 Pro, all iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models, replacing the mute switch. The iPhone Duo has neither the Action Button nor the mute switch.
  7. Face ID: The Duo removes Face ID in favor of Touch ID integrated into the Power Button, similar to the iPad Air.

With these features lacking in the iPhone Duo, it is clear that it is not aimed at having the best specifications, as that is reserved for the Pro. We can place this at the same position as the iPhone Air. Recent rumors suggested that the foldable will not have MagSafe, but that is not the case. The iPhone Duo does feature MagSafe.

In terms of pricing, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB, $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB, and $3,199 for 2TB. It comes in two different finishes: Star White and Night Sky. Pre-orders will begin on October 16th, starting at 5:00 a.m. PT, it will be available on October 23rd.
