On Tuesday morning, Verizon announced that they are launching a new smartphone plan just for kids and can be controlled by parents.

You could say that part of this is being done since the average age for a kid with their first cell phone is as young as 10 years old, according to a study done by Influence Central.

The new plan is called “Just Kids” and it will be a mix-and-match type of plan that allows parents to easily track their kids, limit how much time they are online and set content filters for what types of apps the kid can download.

“At Verizon, we take pride in being a true partner to parents by providing them with products and services designed to meet their needs in an ever-evolving and often confusing technology landscape”¦With Just Kids, we’re leading the way on growing up with tech, providing parents with plan options and features that give them the peace of mind they need for safe and responsible phone usage,” said Angie Klein, Vice President of Marketing at Verizon

The plan will include 5GB of data per month, as well as unlimited talk and text to 20 approved contacts by the parents. To get Just Kids, at least one line on the account needs to be on Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited or Above Unlimited. To do this, Verizon customers can view and change their plan in the My Verizon app.

It will cost $55 per month to have two kids on the plan, $45 per month for three kids and $35 a month for four kids on that plan, according to MacRumors.
