It’s no secret that most colleges and high schools have started classes for the year, and with that come both the necessary and unnecessary gadgets that each student could have. But which ones are the right ones for most students?
- EarPods/AirPods: Even though the AirPods are still somewhat hard to get both in-store and online, they are great for when you’re walking to class or working on an assignment in class and need music to get your blood pumping. EarPods are a great substitute for this, too. Both of these products are incredibly portable and will fit into most backpacks and laptop bags.
- Apple Watch: This one could be frowned upon just because it could be a distraction for the students in class and that the student would have to have their iPhone on them, which could also lead to distractions. However, it does have a good way of telling the time. Also, not that we here at TeamApple News advocate for it, but it does have a good way of checking Twitter during class.
- MacBook: This goes for all versions of the MacBook (12-inch MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro), but they really are necessary for the classroom today just because of the way how the internet is always changing and that students need constant access to the internet.
- Evernote: I even use this app for my class notes and it works very well. It syncs well between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The only issue with it that I have seen is that they only allow for two devices to view and edit notes.
- Apple Music/Spotify Premium: This one kind of goes back to the first point in this post, but nowadays, we don’t want to have to be buying music from iTunes all the time. These music streaming services eliminate that problem. And with the way how a student always seems to have their laptop, iPad, iPhone, and/or iPod Touch with them, they can easily stream their music.
- Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video: Because we all need ways to relax on our downtime. Whether this is in study hall or in your college dorm or apartment, needless to say, TV is a great way to chill.
- Pastebot: I did a review of this app early this year and it is made by the same developers who created Tweetbot for Mac. What the app does is save all of your copied words, sentences, and phrases when copying (such as copy-and-paste) and put them into a single app. When you need to access something that you previously copied, all you have to do is open the app and it should be there. It also copies photos too.
Screenshot of Pastebot for Mac - Grammarly: With this browser extension and app, users can get a smarter auto-correct and another set of eyes on their papers or whatever they are writing. It can be added onto browsers such as Safari, Google Chrome, and Firefox, along with an app that can be downloaded from their website. Note that the app and service do not work with Google Drive at the moment.
Obviously, there are many products and services can and do use, but these are my essential ones for students. If anything, it does not hurt to try these services out just to see whether or not you like them. I can recommend all of the services without a doubt in my mind because I have used them all.
