Apple admitted that they slow down old iPhones. The reason was to conserve battery life and increase the life of the older iPhones. Thousands of people took this the wrong way. This is because many people already predicted that Apple slow down older iPhones in order to get you to upgrade every 2-3 years. Because of this backlash, Apple proceeded to reduce the price for a battery replacement from £79 to £25. However this discount only supports the iPhone 6, SE and above. So if you want to get your battery replaced, then you have until December 2018 to get it done.
Is It Worth It?
My iPhone 6 was very slow. I have used the Developer Betas for iOS 11 since 11.0. And my phone was annoyingly slow. So I got it replaced this week for the £25 Apple charge. And I have to say, for the one day I have used my phone, battery life is really good now and so is the performance. Obviously it’s an iPhone 6, so a battery replacement won’t boost the performance so much that it feels like an iPhone 8 but it will definitely improve performance and make your iPhone feel new.
How Much Does It Improve Battery Life and Performance?
Here’s a bit of a comparison:
Before my iPhone got about 2 and a half hours of usage and went from 100% to 10% by 4pm.
Now that I got my battery replaced, currently at the time of writing this article, my battery is at 73% with 2 and a half hours of usage. That’s a pretty impressive improvement.
In terms of performance, before my iPhone 6 use to stutter at times and lag a lot when scrolling or loading applications. Now in the 1 day I have used my phone I haven’t experienced any lag spikes.
In conclusion, in my opinion getting your battery replaced is absolutely worth it and you will not regret it!
