Apple Announces New Emojis on #WorldEmojiDay

According to the Apple Newsroom website, today is World Emoji Day. I guess this means that on this day each year, in your text messages, tweets and other social media posts, you put up as many emojis as possible to express your thoughts, opinions and feelings?

Their report says that over 70 new emojis are coming to the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac (I think they forgot about the iPod Touch because that is still a thing?) this year, with a release date not set in stone at the moment, but the company says that they will be available “later this year.”

This year’s additions are going to be some new facial expressions and feelings, animals and food. On top of that, the company is also planning on adding a couple superhero emojis, along with a couple other types of emojis.

These updates come from Unicode 11.0, which will add in layers of different skin colors, hair colors and better representation of everyone who uses an iPhone, which seems to hint at Apple’s diversity initiative.

I just hope that Animojis are considered a part of World Emoji Day…
