Apple Keynote

Today was the day that many people around the world had been waiting for, the day that Apple shows off their newest products! Every year at this event Apple takes the stage to announce new and exciting products.

The event started out with a funny video being shown which was then followed by Tim Cook walking on stage. Tim Cook shared some statistical information and then allowed Jeff Williams to take the stage to talk about the Apple Watch.

He talked about some of the features coming to the new Apple Watch before finally showing off the device. The new Apple Watch Series 4 has thinner bezels and the corners of the device have been curved more. There are many new health features announced on the device including a new feature to detect if someone has tripped and to give them an easy way to call for help if needed and ability to measure the user’s EKG by simply placing their finger on the crown for 30 seconds. Some of the other new features of the device include moving the microphone to the same side as the crown which should help with echoing, haptic feedback on the crown, a much louder speak, and new watch faces. The device has also gotten slimmer and the battery life has stayed the same as it was before at around 18 hours.

The next device that they announced was the new iPhones. It started off with a video showing two of the new iPhones which was then followed by Phil Schiller taking the stage to discuss the new phones. There were three new iPhones that were announced at the event. The iPhone XR, the iPhone XS, and the iPhone XS Max.

The iPhone XR is the least expensive of the three devices, costing $749 for the 64GB variation. It will look very much like the iPhone X with it having a notch and no home button. This new device will be offered in many different colors like white, black, yellow, coral, blue, and Product Red. It will have a 6.1-inch LCD screen called “Liquid Retina.” The iPhone XR will also not feature a dual lens camera but instead a 12MP wide angle lens with a 7MP front-facing camera. Another thing about this device that separates it from the XS is that it will have an aluminum body and glass back. The iPhone XR will have the new A12 Bionic chip that will improve processing power. Overall this device looks like it will be a popular choice this year especially for people not looking to pay $1000 for the iPhone XS. If this is the device you want then you will have to wait a little bit longer since preorders start October 19thand will on October 26th.

The other iPhone that was released was Apple’s new flagship device, the iPhone XS and XS Max. The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display and the iPhone XS Max has a massive 6.5-inch screen. Both devices feature a 12MP dual lens camera and a 7MP front facing camera as well as the A12 bionic chip. They also both feature an IP68 water- resistance rating which means that they can go 2 meters under the water and can stay under the water for up to 30 minutes. Apple added a new storage option to both devices this year, a 512GB option that should cover even the people who never delete anything. Some other features include, longer battery lives on both iPhones, faster Face ID, and dual sim card support. Apple is not selling these devices for cheap though with the iPhone XS starting at $999 and the iPhone XS Max starting at $1100. You can preorder both iPhones on September 14thand they will ship out on September 21st.

Surprisingly Apple did not give any news about AirPower or the expected new AirPods. They did, however, announce a couple of new features coming to the HomePod that will allow users to search song lyrics and set multiple timers. Apple finished off the event by announcing that watchOS 5, tvOS 12, and iOS 12 will be released on September 17thand macOS Mojave will be released on September 24th.
