Good news for owners of certain Apple Watches – the vendor has initiated a free-of-charge repair service for those afflicted with a design defect that can cause the screen to crack.

Apple says that “under very rare circumstances” a crack can form along the rounded edge of the screen in aluminum Series 2 and Series 3 Apple Watch models, starting on one side of the screen and then continuing around it.

A disclaimer noted that the program only applies to Series 3 watches purchased through September, suggesting that either Apple fixed the screen in recently produced models or ended production on that series — rumors suggest we’ll see something new during Apple’s September event.

In 2018, Apple was hit with a class-action suit over the Apple Watch screen’s alleged tendency to “crack, shatter, or detach from the body,” but it was ultimately thrown out for being too vague in its description of the supposed defect.

Those who bought the Nike+ version can also get replacements of the space grey or silver aluminium versions bought between October 2016 and October 2016.
