Apple recently held its Q2 earnings call. Based on the information from the call, Strategy Analytics estimated that the iPad, the world’s most popular tablet saw a significant increase by 33% compared to Q2 2019, the highest growth for the iPad in the past 6 years.
Apple saw $59.7 billion in revenue with $11.25 billion in profit with the strongest area of growth being the iPad.
Canalys estimates that $6.58 billion in iPad revenue represents 14.2 million devices with Strategy Analytics estimating 14.3 million iPads with a 34% year over year growth.
Recent estimates show the global tablet market increasing by 17% with Apple seeing double the amount of growth. The data has Apple comfortably on top with double the amount of shipments compared to competitor Samsung who sits second.

Strategy Analytics stated in their report the significant increase in tablet shipments was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with most employees and students worldwide forced to work from home. This saw an increase in tablet and device purchases, with many previously not needing such devices.
